Facing Death

1 Corinthians 15:55 AMPC

O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?

Sooner or later we will all have to face Death.

It's not something we like to speak about. It's a taboo subject these days, but has been thrust onto the front page via the COVID-19 situation.

Graphs of daily deaths have been displayed on TV and in news media.

Yet still our own demise is hard to face.

But the Empty Tomb of Jesus brings Hope from beyond the Grave.

For all the wonderful teachings of Jesus, without the Resurrection, that would be all that there was - a few nice sounding words that ended in cruel defeat.

The good news to celebrate is:

1 Corinthians 15:3-8 AMPC

For I passed on to you first of all what I also had received, that Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One) died for our sins in accordance with what the Scriptures foretold, That He was buried, that He arose on the third day as the Scriptures foretold, And also that He appeared to Cephas (Peter), then to the Twelve. Then later He showed Himself to more than five hundred brethren at one time, the majority of whom are still alive, but some have fallen asleep [in death]. Afterward He was seen by James, then by all the apostles (the special messengers), And last of all He appeared to me also, as to one prematurely and born dead [no better than an unperfected foetus among living men].

We can be sure by faith, as Jesus told Thomas, even though our eyes haven't seen like those there at the time - we are blessed because we do believe that Jesus did rise from the dead is is alive forevermore. Moreover, through Him the fear of death is eliminated for all who do believe.

Revelation 1:18

I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.

John 20:29

Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
