Everlasting Arms

Deuteronomy 33:27

The Eternal God is your refuge,

and underneath are the Everlasting Arms.

Jon Secada's song says:

Who will take care of me

When you are gone away

I will have nothing left

But your memory

This morning a very dear friend and neighbour passed away. She leaves behind a grieving husband and son. She had been the hub of the home, they both had leaned very hard on her common sense, love and wisdom.

It was so sad to hear the grief pouring from her husband's broken heart and those lyrics above in the song echo what he is feeling right now.

Unless we have that personal relationship with the Eternal God, and rely only on earthly relationships to sustain us, we will be lost when bereavement knocks on our door - as it surely will.

When we lose our nearest and dearest earthly companion, making our refuge in Jesus will sustain us through the deepest, darkest grief.

Lord I pray for that family and for everyone grieving lost loved ones. Please be with them and comfort their hearts. May their deep grief cause them to call on You, our only true Hope.

The Lord is close to those whose hearts are breaking Psalm 34:18
