Ecclesiastes 12
New International Version
12 Remember your Creator
in the days of your youth,
before the days of trouble come
and the years approach when you will say,
“I find no pleasure in them”—
2 before the sun and the light
and the moon and the stars grow dark,
and the clouds return after the rain;
3 when the keepers of the house tremble,
and the strong men stoop,
when the grinders cease because they are few,
and those looking through the windows grow dim;
4 when the doors to the street are closed
and the sound of grinding fades;
when people rise up at the sound of birds,
but all their songs grow faint;
5 when people are afraid of heights
and of dangers in the streets;
when the almond tree blossoms
and the grasshopper drags itself along
and desire no longer is stirred.
Then people go to their eternal home
and mourners go about the streets.
6 Remember him—before the silver cord is severed,
and the golden bowl is broken;
before the pitcher is shattered at the spring,
and the wheel broken at the well,
7 and the dust returns to the ground it came from,
and the spirit returns to God who gave it.
I've just finished watching an episode of Long Lost Family. It was a tremendously sad story about a guy who was rejected by his mother and was in and out of care and foster homes until the age of 16.
He never ever felt loved or had any sense of belonging.
His foster sister [in one of the homes he was in] went searching for him. Eventually, via the program, she found him and through that program he found he had a blood sister too.
All those years he'd spent feeling unloved and unwanted when all the time someone was looking for him.
It turned out that the foster sister only lived 11 miles away from him. So near and yet so far.
In the same way our Heavenly Father is searching for us, each one of us. He longs to be reunited with us. After all, He fashioned us in our mother's womb.
For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
Psalm 139:13
He's never been faraway. He's always been looking out for you, but maybe you never recognised it! His Hand of blessing has been ever present in your life, His mercy and faithfulness stretched out towards your unseeing eyes and deaf ears. If you would only open up and realise.
At whatever age you are, don't waste another moment being separated from the One who loves you more than you could ever imagine.
The passage above says "remember your Creator in the days of your youth", because a life lived for the Lord is one of fulfilment and purpose.
However, perhaps youth is but a distant memory by now, but it's never too late to turn to Jesus and be reconciled to God.
Don't waste another moment!
