Acts 16:16-18 AMPC
As we were on our way to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who was possessed by a spirit of divination [claiming to foretell future events and to discover hidden knowledge], and she brought her owners much gain by her fortune telling. [17] She kept following Paul and [the rest of] us, shouting loudly, These men are the servants of the Most High God! They announce to you the way of salvation! [18] And she did this for many days. Then Paul, being sorely annoyed and worn out, turned and said to the spirit within her, I charge you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her! And it came out that very moment.
There is an unhealthy interest in the occult these days from children and grown ups, particularly stimulated by the seemingly inoffensive stories and movies about Harry Potter.
Fortune tellers, mediums, seances and horoscopes are all enticements away from relying on the Lord and His Word. Each of these is specifically prohibited in both Old and New Testaments. Believers in Jesus should have nothing to do with such things.
The end of those enticements is a spiritual web of darkness.
The evil one is always looking for a doorway into our lives and the occult not just a doorway but a super highway!
Only this week a guy was jailed after making a pact with Satan - a blood sacrifice - brutally stabbing and killing 2 women - believing that Satan would then help him to win the lottery.
As Jesus said in John 10:10 - the thief (Satan) comes only to steal, kill and destroy, but I came that they may have and enjoy life in abundance till it overflows.
On this Halloween day make it a practice to avoid any glorification of the occult and don't dabble.
Pray for the protection of children who are allured by dressing up in occult costumes for "trick or treat".
Satan will whisper: "It's only a harmless bit of fun", but, in the same way we wouldn't let a child play with a box of matches, so we should guard their hearts from any form of spiritual darkness.
Always remember that Jesus is the Light of the world and the darkness can never overcome His Light:
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.2 He was with God in the beginning.3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
John 1:1-5
Conversely, don't let Satan brow beat you into fearing the evil spirits - Jesus has overcome all the powers of darkness on the Cross:
[God] disarmed the principalities and powers that were ranged against us and made a bold display and public example of them, in triumphing over them in Him and in it [the cross].
Colossians 2:15
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
James 4:7
Rather than glorify evil today, rejoice and triumph in Jesus' eternal victory over all satanic activity.
