1 Corinthians 13:2 NLT
If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God's secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn't love others, I would be nothing.
We tend to look up to fellow believers who can quote chapter and verse at the drop of a hat.
But those very same people often wouldn't lift a finger to help when someone's in need!
What about people who have bags of faith, yet close the door of their hearts to their neighbour?
This chapter speaks to the spiritually prideful - it is a snare ready to catch anyone who puts the wrong emphasis on knowledge and faith.
Faith without works is dead and knowledge alone puffs up.
Jesus spoke the most scathingly of all to the religious leaders of His day:
Matthew 23:27-28 NLT
"What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs-beautiful on the outside but filled on the inside with dead people's bones and all sorts of impurity. [28] Outwardly you look like righteous people, but inwardly your hearts are filled with hypocrisy and lawlessness.
They knew the prophecies about the Messiah, but failed to see the real Jesus in their midst.
Instead they actively contrived to put Him to death.
That was the outcome of their knowledge!
Don't be a spiritual know-it-all...
Keep love at the top of the agenda of life.
