1 John 1:9 AMPC
If we [freely] admit that we have sinned and confess our sins, He is faithful and just (true to His own nature and promises) and will forgive our sins [dismiss our lawlessness] and [continuously] cleanse us from all unrighteousness [everything not in conformity to His will in purpose, thought, and action].
I have an inate hatred of leaving washing up until the next day.
So I was horrified to see yesterday's dishes still in the sink this morning.
Quickly I washed up and felt relieved when I saw the dishes on the drainer all shiny and clean.... "Phew", I said in my heart, "that's better"...
What a picture of how I should keep "short accounts" with Jesus.
Yes, of course, I sin each and every day, letting the Lord down in thought word and deed.
So I need to do my "washing up" quickly before that sin sticks to my soul.
Through the blood of Jesus, I need to immediately let God scrub off that bad thought, that failure, that harsh criticism, whatever the Holy Spirit points out.
If I never did the washing up, eventually the kitchen would become a hovel of decaying food and a haven for bacteria and germs.
In the same way, sin thrives in a dirty heart - one that has never been washed in Jesus' blood.
1 John 1:10 AMPC
If we say (claim) we have not sinned, we contradict His Word and make Him out to be false and a liar, and His Word is not in us [the divine message of the Gospel is not in our hearts].
I need to be continually keeping my heart clean by going to Jesus for cleansing each time I sin.
