Luke 23:28-31 AMPC
But Jesus, turning toward them, said, Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. [29] For behold, the days are coming during which they will say, Blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied) are the barren, and the wombs that have not borne, and the breasts that have never nursed [babies]! [30] Then they will begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us! and to the hills, Cover (conceal, hide) us! [31] For if they do these things when the timber is green, what will happen when it is dry?
The book of Revelation tells of approaching judgement represented by the 4 horseman of the apocalypse.
They are sent out to patrol the earth and bring judgement on the world.
I encourage you to study the book of Revelation for yourself and see if you can perceive the "distant sound of those horses' hooves!"
Even as Jesus went to the cross He warned of the coming judgement.
What did He mean:
Luke 23:31 AMPC
For if they do these things when the timber is green, what will happen when it is dry?
Perhaps it could be this: if people could reject and crucify Jesus while He was physically on the earth, seen doing good and preaching love, how much worse will the rejection be in years to come - when the message of the cross has grown "old"?
We are presently in days of grace with multiple opportunities of turning to God and putting our trust in Jesus, but as the sound of those horses' hooves grows ever louder, time is running out.
Jesus said "When the Son of Man returns, will He find faith on the earth?" Luke 18:8
In that chapter He is encouraging us to continue to pray and not faint because the answer will come.
The danger is that we get lulled into a half-sleep, entangled in the matters of this world, not noticing the signs of the times.
Prayer
Lord Jesus please give me ears to hear and discern Your approach. I want to be found with faith in You when You return.
