Disarmed

Colossians 2:13-15

And having disarmed the powers and authorities, He made a public spectacle [display] of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

So our old garden shed has come down and now we can see how rotten it was!

When the felt was ripped away it showed how the damp had destroyed the wood on the roof and the whole structure.

So too with evil - it likes to cover itself up and hide in dark places. Only when the Light comes is it's true nature revealed.

We like to kid ourselves that we're ok and don't need someone to save us.

But when the Holy Spirit turns the light on in our hearts we can see how rotten we are.

On the cross Jesus made an open show of satan and evil powers.

It revealed the extent that hatred and jealousy had infiltrated the heart of mankind.

Yet, ingeniously, Jesus used that very evil and cruel cross to disarm satan.

All the guilt and shame that haunts us in our darkest moments Jesus has nailed to His cross and cancelled the debt.

All the rottenness of our hearts has been demolished through His broken body and shed blood.

As we come to Jesus, admitting our rottenness, the weapons that satan wants to use against us have been disarmed.

He can now only fire harmless "blanks" at us.

When we watch a movie and the bad guy gets his comeuppance, there's something very satisfying about it.

In the old back and white films it is swiftly followed by "The End"!

Our Lord Jesus has overcome satan's accusing weaponry ranged against us and there will be a final end to all evil.

Be on the side of the only "Good Guy" there has ever been and let Him disarm everything that wants to destroy you, even the final enemy Death!

1 Corinthians 15:55-57 ‘Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?’

The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

The End!
