Psalm 35:1-5 AMPC
Contend, O Lord, with those who contend with me; fight against those who fight against me! [2] Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for my help! [3] Draw out also the spear and javelin and close up the way of those who pursue and persecute me. Say to me, I am your deliverance! [4] Let them be put to shame and dishonor who seek and require my life; let them be turned back and confounded who plan my hurt! [5] Let them be as chaff before the wind, with the Angel of the Lord driving them on!
There was a dark time in my life when the Holy Spirit guided me to "pray through the Psalms".
Why?
Well, I was finding it nearly impossible to pray - I couldn't seem to find the words, but, nevertheless, I wanted to cling to the Lord.
In the Psalms we find prayers and praise for each and every situation we may face.
They are full of stark words for turbulent events that fall on us without warning.
Today I pray this Psalm for those Israelis and Jewish folk who are being attacked in Israel and around the world.
Fear is all around them and vicious, undeserved hatred rises up on the streets, to our great shame.
Satan wants to destroy those who God loves.
They are, whether they realise it or not, God's Chosen People.
Those who want to wipe them from the face of the earth will find themselves facing the wrath of the Lord.
He has made a promise that they will never be annihilated (though many have tried):
Jeremiah 31:35-36 NKJV
Thus says the LORD, Who gives the sun for a light by day, The ordinances of the moon and the stars for a light by night, Who disturbs the sea, And its waves roar (The LORD of hosts is His Name): [36] "If those ordinances depart From before Me, says the LORD, Then the seed of Israel shall also cease from being a nation before Me forever."
It is a fearful thing to fall into the Hands of the Living God.
Jesus read from the scroll of Isaiah about Himself.
Let us not forget th at He stopped at this part:
Isaiah 61:2 NKJV
To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD,
The prophecy goes on to say:
And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn, [3] To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified."
There is unfinished business up ahead for Jesus.
God will not be mocked.
