Jeremiah 17:9-10 TLB The heart is the most deceitful thing there is and desperately wicked. No one can really know how bad it is! Only the Lord knows! He searches all hearts and examines deepest motives so he can give to each person his right reward, according to his deeds—how he has lived.
What an easy thing it is to be self deceived. Unless we open up ourselves and let the Holy Spirit tell us the truth, we are apt to turn a blind eye to our own selfish motives and desires.
But there is nothing hidden from the Lord - our hearts are laid bare before Him.
It's a very sobering thought.
Jesus pictured it in this way:
Luke 6:41 AMPC Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye but do not notice or consider the beam [of timber] that is in your own eye?
Often we see ourselves through rose coloured glasses, but look at others' faults through a microscope!
S-E-L-A-H!
Moreover, I believe we are living in the days of great deception and we need to be ever so careful about the information we are being fed and not swallow it hook, line and sinker.
Monitor everything through the eyes of God's Word.
Be prepared to listen to what God says, even if it hurts! For He has our ultimate good at heart.
Proverbs 27:6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.
Jesus tells us over and over again to be alert and on guard - He is coming at an hour we don't expect.
The original deceiver, satan, is out to rob everyone he can of their salvation. We need to be wary of his wiles.
Let's be prepared to face the truth and not be led astray.
2 Timothy 4:3-4 TLB For there is going to come a time when people won’t listen to the truth but will go around looking for teachers who will tell them just what they want to hear. They won’t listen to what the Bible says but will blithely follow their own misguided ideas.
A prayer:
Search me, O God, and know my heart; test my thoughts. Point out anything you find in me that makes you sad, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.
Psalm 139:23-24 TLB
