Luke 23:52-53,55 AMPC
This man (Joseph of Arimathea) went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. [53] Then he took it down and rolled it up in a linen cloth for swathing dead bodies and laid Him in a rock-hewn tomb, where no one had ever yet been laid. [55] The women who had come with [Jesus] from Galilee followed closely and saw the tomb and how His body was laid.
How must it have been for Jesus' followers to see Jesus' dead, mutilated, bloodied body taken down from the Cross and be buried in Joseph's tomb?
With Him all their hopes and dreams - personal and political were being buried too.
Without their Master, what would they do, how would they cope and where could they go?
Peter had previously stated:
“Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.”
John 6:68-69
Now the Giver of those words was silenced in a sealed tomb.
For each one of us there comes a time when God is silent and our dreams and hopes are buried in disappointment and drudgery.
We get stuck between our "Good Fridays" and "Resurrection Sundays".
If you're staring at the tomb where your faith is buried, there is coming a day, a precious dawn...
God isn't finished yet...
Deep down Jesus is still busy:
1 Peter 3:18-20 AMPC
For Christ [the Messiah Himself] died for sins once for all, the Righteous for the unrighteous (the Just for the unjust, the Innocent for the guilty), that He might bring us to God. In His human body He was put to death, but He was made alive in the spirit, [19] In which He went and preached to the spirits in prison, [20] [The souls of those] who long before in the days of Noah had been disobedient, when God's patience waited during the building of the ark in which a few [people], actually eight in number, were saved through water.
God is always at work even if it seems He's dead and buried!
