Daring to hope

Lamentations 3:21-24 NLT

Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this: [22] The faithful love of the LORD never ends! His mercies never cease. [23] Great is His faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning. [24] I say to myself, "The LORD is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in Him!"

Daring to hope in darkness - now that's a theme needed for today's world.

Teetering on the edge of world war, natural disasters popping up on a daily basis, shortages and uncertainties - which should we worry about first?

In this passage, Jeremiah is lamenting the fall of Jerusalem. Devastation surrounds him - there is death and destruction on every side.

It is here, in deepest despair, that we get the most beautiful verses of hope in God.

The famous hymn "Great is Thy Faithfulness" is inspired by this portion of scripture.

When all reason for human hope is gone, there is still a tunnel of light leading to the Lord.

Satan wants to drain and wear us out so that we lose our faith, hope and love for Jesus.

He plays the long game.

Like a dogged football team that puts 10 men behind the ball, he tries to thwart our progress.

Last week my team faced such an opposition. It was deep into added time and one player dared to hope and took a chance to shoot..... and BOOM.... the winning goal!

Feeling like everything you try has failed, lost the will to keep striving? Remember God's faithfulness in your darkness.

Through gritted teeth lift up your gaze to heaven and dare to hope in God.

He is our inheritance - He IS faithful.

Amid all these "things", life's various adversities, we are more than conquerors!

Great is Jesus' faithfulness!
