Couch potato king?

2 Samuel 11:1-2 AMPC

In the spring, when kings go forth to battle, David sent Joab with his servants and all Israel, and they ravaged the Ammonites [country] and besieged Rabbah. But David remained in Jerusalem. [2] One evening David arose from his couch and was walking on the roof of the king's house, when from there he saw a woman bathing; and she was very lovely to behold.

King David was the most revered king of Israel, mighty in battle, defeating giants and armies.

Yet when he felt he'd "done his bit", he sent others to do the fighting and took it easy.

In present day times, he might've ordered up a just-eat takeaway and lay on his couch watching Netflix! Then got up and wondered around seeing how else he could occupy his time.

Read on to see how simple lust led into adultery, an unplanned pregnancy, deceit and finally to hidden murder.

How could such a man fall so far from grace?

Answer: he withdrew from the battle - when he should've joined his army, he stayed at home doing nothing!

It's the same for me when I let down my guard and lay down my spiritual weapons of prayer and fellowship with the Lord - I expose myself to progressive failure.

A massive sin starts with just small erosions in my spiritual life!

If Satan had tempted David with Bathsheba when he was in battle gear facing the enemy then he would certainly been too occupied.

Jesus gave a parable to illustrate this:

Luke 19:13 And he called his ten servants, and gave them ten pounds, and said to them, Occupy till I come.

Jesus says the very same thing to me..... make sure you occupy your time till I come!

Prayer

Father God, may I be so engrossed in "Your Kingdom come" that I don't have time to be distracted, in Jesus' name I ask it.
