Control

Proverbs 14:29 People with understanding control their anger; a hot temper shows great foolishness.

Hands up anyone who has acted foolishly in a moment of hot temper?

I am ashamed to admit that I see myself in this Proverb.

The Bible is like a mirror in which we see ourselves reflected.

It is not a distorted mirror like the ones you can find in an amusement arcade. No, it shows us up for what we really are.

When we look in a physical mirror and see something wrong - a blemish or untidy hair, we can make reparation.

So with God's Word - it not only reveals the real me and my lost state, but provides the Way for a brand new start.

The Holy Spirit is the moisturiser for the dryness of our soul, renewing us each new day.

The blood of Jesus is the cleansing shower that washes off the dirt of sin and shame on a daily basis.

A hot temper does not have to control your life, the Holy Spirit gives the fruit of self control.

Being one of the hot tempered brigade, I praise and thank the Lord that He has brought me a long way from where I used to be.

Things that used to trigger anger now have subsided.

But it depends on a daily encounter and transfer of power from Jesus!

Spend time with the One who speaks to a raging storm and calms it in a moment.

Jesus' Presence brings peace that passes understanding.

Philippians 4:4-9

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.
