Luke 21:11 AMPC
There will be mighty and violent earthquakes, and in various places famines and pestilences (plagues: malignant and contagious or infectious epidemic diseases which are deadly and devastating); and there will be sights of terror and great signs from heaven.
We've been warned over and over again about how contagious this COVID-19 is and how we have to ensure we don't pass it on and infect others.
Some are are isolating, others are wearing face masks or gloves, keeping their distance - all are washing their hands in exaggerated fashion, till the skin becomes like sandpaper!!
It shouldn't take us by surprise if we've read Jesus' word in the above verse. He warned that these sort of plagues would come.
As followers of The Way, we are all "carriers" of the good news.
We are called to be "infectious" with the truth of Jesus.
This led me to ask myself: "How contagious am I ?"
Are people I mix with in "danger" of catching the message of Jesus?
Do I mask my beliefs? Do I try to be so sterile and not touch other people?
I remember my Grandma always being "armed" with gospel leaflets in her handbag.
One particular incident sticks in my mind. There was a guy fishing on the canal bank. She was just out for a walk with me.
Seeing the guy, she approached him with said leaflet and asked him if he knew Jesus.
It was embarrassing to me as a small child. I squirmed a bit as I held her hand.
The man looked at her as if she'd just arrived from Mars!
Yet she was prepared to be contagious and spread the good news to anyone she met.
Again I ask myself, how contagious am I?
2 Corinthians 2:15 AMPC
For we are the sweet fragrance of Christ [which exhales] unto God, [discernible alike] among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing
