Complacent indifference

Ezekiel 16:49-50 NLT

Sodom's sins were pride, gluttony, and laziness, while the poor and needy suffered outside her door. [50] She was proud and committed detestable sins, so I wiped her out, as you have seen.

Luke 17:28-30 NLT

"And the world will be as it was in the days of Lot. People went about their daily business-eating and drinking, buying and selling, farming and building- [29] until the morning Lot left Sodom. Then fire and burning sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all. [30] Yes, it will be 'business as usual' right up to the day when the Son of Man is revealed.

Is the world acting like Sodom today? Is there iceberg-like indifference to those suffering around us?

Are we more concerned with our gardens than the lostness of our neighbours?

O Lord Jesus, have mercy on our hard, complacent hearts.

We think we're alright, don't need anything, judgement is a figment of a jaded biblical imagination.

If God doesn't exist who cares what we do!

Prayer is outlawed on our streets, while the silent massacre of the unborn goes on unabated.

That's our wretched state today.

Shame on all of us!

See Lot's response to shockingly offer his daughters to the sex-mad mob.

Genesis 19:4-5,7-8 NLT

But before they retired for the night, all the men of Sodom, young and old, came from all over the city and surrounded the house. [5] They shouted to Lot, "Where are the men who came to spend the night with you? Bring them out to us so we can have sex with them!" [7] "Please, my brothers," he begged, "don't do such a wicked thing. [8] Look, I have two virgin daughters. Let me bring them out to you, and you can do with them as you wish. But please, leave these men alone, for they are my guests and are under my protection."

For Lot read believers of today. Are we so lukewarm and polluted in our thinking that we'll offer up our children to false identity teaching and subject them to perverse sexualisation?

And, what has the church become, offering blessing on relationships that clearly defy God's created order?

"As it was in the days of Lot" seems very close to home.

Let not our ears become so dull and our hearts too indifferent.

Jesus warned us - told us plainly:

Revelation 3:22 NLT

"Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what He is saying to the churches."
