Hebrews 9:27
Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.
So much uncertainty is surrounding us right now. When will we be allowed take off our masks? When will we be able to mix with our friends and family without social distancing? When will this virus end? Should I take the vaccine? Will I catch COVID-19? Can I trust the media? Can I trust the Government? Who is telling the truth? Will I have a job? The list of imponderables is endless.
There are, however, a few things that are certainties - we will all have to die one day - that can't be argued with!
Death is the same whether it is by the coronavirus, cancer, heart attack, stroke, plane crash, accident or old age. It's a certainty coming to us all.
The Bible lifts the curtain on what happens afterwards. It speaks with clarity. After death we all face judgement.
Now chat to an atheist and they will tell you that it's rubbish, nonsense - there's nothing to worry about - you just extinguish like a candle that has burnt down - no more you: "ashes to ashes, dust to dust"!
To speak truth, there will be no end to us - we each have an eternal personhood. But we do have a choice of how to face the final judgement - under the cover of Jesus, our sin bearer or, in stand in our own perceived goodness and make our case before God.
Another certainty is that Jesus is coming back a second time to bring that final release from the shackles of this world - to those who are waiting for Him.
Personally, in my heart, I'm tired of the lies, corruption and deception that is rife on the earth. Deep in my spirit I'm waiting now for Jesus' appearing.
If you don't yet have that assurance, that peace which comes from knowing Jesus - you can have it. As we read yesterday in Joel 2 "ALL who call upon the name of the Lord will be saved"! A certainty in an uncertain world.
Prayer
Jesus we look for your appearing, we long for you to return and set up your throne. Your Kingdom come, Your Will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.
