Hosea 11:10
They will follow the Lord;
He will roar like a lion.
When He roars,
His children will come trembling from the west.
Following on from yesterday we look at the lion qualities of Jesus.
When a lion roars, it's something that strikes awe into the very marrow of our bones. Certainly, it's not something to ignore or treat as trivial.
I ask myself this question: "Can I hear the roar of Jesus in my spiritual ears?" It's too loud and intimidating to be ignored. Yet, for us, as believers, there are the underlying dulcet tones of the Lamb drawing us close with tenderness.
Often I call my dog Roki to come to me when he's sleeping in the other room on his bed.
When I call him with a sweet voice [as sweet as my voice can be!], there's no response. So I call again, a little louder and with a bit more severity - still unresponsive! Finally, with my best severe command I call him. Then he emerges from his bed, stretching and yawning... not exactly trembling though!
As followers of Jesus sometimes we won't get off our backsides until we hear the roar of Jesus calling us with a lion's voice.
Not only that, there is another smaller lion prowling around in the world:
Be sober, be watchful: your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, prowls about, seeking whom he may devour:
1 Peter 5:8
I remember being in British Columbia near where the grizzly bears were hunting the salmon during the Fall. It was vital to be on your guard. The rangers always were on the alert with their walkie talkies warning us if there was a grizzly in the area on the loose.
Satan is on the loose on this earth and we have to be ready at any moment for his attacks.
But keep in mind - a larger more ferocious lion than he can come on the scene at any moment and put to that lion to flight - Our Lord Jesus, the Lion of Judah, has risen from His Throne to take up the cause of Justice and Righteousness.
