Genesis 39:1-3 AMPC
And Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, the captain and chief executioner of the [royal] guard, an Egyptian, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had brought him down there. [2] But the Lord was with Joseph, and he [though a slave] was a successful and prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. [3] And his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord made all that he did to flourish and succeed in his hand.
God didn't just swish Joseph to the second in command of Egypt.
He had to serve an "apprenticeship" in servitude to Potiphar, learning how to work hard, make decisions over Potiphar's household.
This spoilt "daddy's boy" had previously everything at his finger tips at home with Jacob, but to fulfill God's plan, revealed in those dreams, he had to be beaten into shape.
When things looked to be improving, again he was tested - this time falsely accused of rape. He found himself in prison.
Genesis 39:20-23 AMPC
And Joseph's master took him and put him in the prison, a place where the state prisoners were confined; so he was there in the prison. [21] But the Lord was with Joseph, and showed him mercy and loving-kindness and gave him favor in the sight of the warden of the prison. [22] And the warden of the prison committed to Joseph's care all the prisoners who were in the prison; and whatsoever was done there, he was in charge of it. [23] The prison warden paid no attention to anything that was in [Joseph's] charge, for the Lord was with him and made whatever he did to prosper.
It looked worse and worse for Joseph, he could've thrown away his faith. Yet the very worst place in prison was the only way for the Lord to raise him up to be in charge of Egypt.
Terrible, unexpected events happen in life - ones that change everything - life will never be the same thereafter - so, remember "but the Lord was with Joseph"...
The unseen Architect is working lovingly behind the scenes, drawing plans we can't de-code, until much later, or even until eternity dawns.
Yet one thing remains constant, the Presence of the Lord to uphold and sustain by being there every ioata of the time.
Through your present or past heartache remember "but the Lord was with (insert your name).
He will never leave or forsake you.
There's coming a "one day" when you'll see the unseen purpose of God in your life.
Until that time "hold on" to the Lord Jesus and His precious promise:
Matthew 28:20 NLT
Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
