Bruised reeds

Isaiah 42:1-4 NKJV

"Behold! My Servant whom I uphold, My Elect One in whom My soul delights! I have put My Spirit upon Him; He will bring forth justice to the Gentiles. [2] He will not cry out, nor raise His voice, Nor cause His Voice to be heard in the street. [3] A bruised reed He will not break, And smoking flax He will not quench; He will bring forth justice for truth. [4] He will not fail nor be discouraged, Till He has established justice in the earth; And the coastlands shall wait for His law."

The wind was too strong for the pot which held the tall, reed-like grass on the steps of our conservatory. So it fell, crushing one of the long stems.

My nearest and dearest broke it off and threw it in the garden bin. The end.

That's not the way of the Saviour - God's Servant as described and prophecised in Isaiah and fleshed out in the Person of Jesus we see in the Gospels.

He took many "bruised reeds" by the hand and raised them up, from the adulterous woman, to Jairus' sick daughter and His dead friend Lazarus.

So many that we would have placed in the "garden bin" of history, Jesus restores and brings to life out of seeming death.

Each follower of Jesus has a similar story of lostness transformed by the touch of the Messiah.

I'm no different - there have been so many times when the Lord could have snuffed out this smouldering wick, but He lovingly restored me and brought me back.

He's still being gentle and patient with me to this very day.

How grateful I am for that patience, mercy and grace.

O that the vast field of "bruised reeds" - needy people - would hear His voice and feel His transforming love.

The world needs Jesus!
