Matthew 9:35-38 TPT
Jesus walked throughout the region with the joyful message of God's kingdom realm. He taught in their meeting houses, and wherever He went He demonstrated God's power by healing every kind of disease and illness. [36] When He saw the vast crowds of people, Jesus' heart was deeply moved with compassion, because they seemed weary and helpless, like wandering sheep without a shepherd. [37] He turned to His disciples and said, "The harvest is huge and ripe! But there are not enough harvesters to bring it all in. [38] As you go, plead with the Owner of the Harvest to thrust out many more reapers to harvest His grain!"
t's been harvest time here in the UK.
Foreign workers have had to be brought in to help with the fruit picking, as there are not enough willing workers here.
Jesus talks of another harvest - the harvest of world-weary, hopeless, helpless people.
In His time on earth, there was an oppressive, callous tyranny, the Roman Empire, ruling the Land.
They had their agents, even among the Hebrew population, extorting taxes for the government and lining their own pockets too.
The religious leaders gave them no respite either, placing huge legalistic burdens on them and making money via a temple tax.
No wonder Jesus' heart went out to the crowds in loving compassion.
It was "harvest time" - time for hope, healing and ultimate salvation for starving souls.
Can't we see a similar "harvest" in the world today?
People are bemused at the present and afraid for the future.
The world has no answers but to wield more and more control and charge higher taxes.
There is corruption and collusion between governments and big corporations.
Life has lost its sanctity for the unborn, the elderly and sick.
What the world needs is Jesus - yet His true message is being stifled by those who should know better.
Jesus is our only Hope in a world that is hopeless.
He is the Light that overcomes the darkness.
He is the Resurrection and the Life, for those facing death.
He is the Door to eternal life via His sacrifice on the Cross.
Spread the Word, the Good News while there is still time.
Be a harvester for Jesus.
