Psalm 135:6
The LORD does whatever pleases him throughout all heaven and earth, and on the seas and in their depths. 7 He causes the clouds to rise over the whole earth. He sends the lightning with the rain and releases the wind from his storehouses.
Last night, as the thunder and lightning began, the awesome power of God, demonstrated in nature, overwhelmed the peaceful calm of the heatwave.
It's easy to forget the awesomeness of the Lord when everyday seems banal and void of excitement.
Perhaps, your walk with Jesus has become lack lustre and dry?
In times of calm and ease, when we don't need an urgent answer to prayer, the snare of indifference may dilute our faith.
That's when a sudden storm can jolt us out of indolence and spiritual laziness.
The Lord uses storms in life to get our attention off of the transitory tangible things of this world, towards the eternal.
Through the past year we have seen such a "storm" rip through this world - tearing up the norms of everyday existence - pressing our noses up against the fragility of life. Forcing us to face up to realities that previously were masked by "routines" of socialising, holidays, going to work.
It's very urgent to share the Anchor of our life - the Lord Jesus and His saving power - promising eternity in Heaven - with all who will listen.
His great loving Presence means we don't need to be scared in the midst of the storms of life.
Moreover, He is the only One who gives Hope beyond the grave, so that Death holds no fear for the believer.
Prayer
Father God, help me to focus on the awesome power in the name of Jesus - may that power be released as I share the Good News of Jesus with others.
Acts 11:15 “As I began to speak,” Peter continued, “the Holy Spirit fell on them, just as he fell on us at the beginning.
