Arm of flesh

2 Chronicles 32:8 AMPC

With him is an arm of flesh, but with us is the Lord our God to help us and to fight our battles. And the people relied on the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.

Throughout history there have arisen numerous tyrants that have threatened annihilation and destruction to their adversaries.

They, in their pride, think that they have limitless power in their fleshly conceit.

They look at their stock pile of weapons, their vast army and material possessions and think themselves invincible.

In WW2, it was Hitler, "rattling his sabre", against the world, planning a 1000 year reign.

With him truly was "the arm of flesh".

Yet he came to an ignominious defeat, committing suicide in his Berlin bunker.

Today we have Putin threatening the West with nuclear weapons, shaking his fist at his opposition, bearing his "arm of flesh".

Again, in WW2, King George VI, our late Queen's father, called the country to a day of prayer:

"In May 1940 when France had fallen and the British Army was trapped at Dunkirk with the real threat of annihilation, King George VI called for a National Day of Prayer to plead for divine intervention.

The queue was much like that of those queuing to pay respects to the Queen last month.

The result of that National Day of Prayer was of course the miracle of Dunkirk where thousands of small sea vessels evacuated 335,000 soldiers.

Pray for our new King that God will grip his heart with similar faith.

If you feel anxious about happenings now, always remember that the "arm of flesh" will eventually fail.

As the old hymn states:

Stand up, stand up for Jesus,

Stand in his strength alone;

The arm of flesh will fail you,

You dare not trust your own.

Turn to Jesus in prayer, in Him is power to overcome:

John 16:33

“ I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

God is in ultimate control of history.

He may be allowing these troubles to turn the hearts of the people back to Jesus
