Psalm 17
6 I call on you, my God, for you will answer me;
turn your ear to me and hear my prayer.
7 Show me the wonders of your great love,
you who save by your right hand
those who take refuge in you from their foes.
8 Keep me as the apple of your eye;
hide me in the shadow of your wings
9 from the wicked who are out to destroy me, from my mortal enemies who surround me.
Zechariah 2:8
For this is what the Lord Almighty says: “After the Glorious One has sent me against the nations that have plundered you—for whoever touches you touches the apple of his eye—
Our eyes are probably the one of the most sensitive parts of our bodies:
"The human cornea is probably endowed with the greatest density of nerve fibres of any tissue in the body. For this reason it is assumed to be the most sensitive structure (1) a characteristic which is, of course, essential to elicit the palpebral reflex which shuts the eyelids and therefore protects the eye."
Poke someone in the eye and you certainly will gain their attention and incur a swift riposte.
The Bible states that whoever touches you (if you are one of God's chosen) prods the Lord in the eye and arouses His anger. I don't think it's wise to do that!
As beloved children of the Living God, we can call on Him for His protection and intervention in our lives.
It is right to expect the Lord to stick up for us when we are under attacks of various kinds.
We can pray along with David "keep me as the Apple of your eye" when we feel vulnerable and helpless in the face of adverse circumstances that assault our lives.
Sounds presumptuous? Not a bit of it!
You parents will know how you feel when someone "has a go" at your child! Don't you become protective and get on the offensive?
How much more will our loving Heavenly Father defend us who call on Him.
Last night I was challenged about my stance in a particular situation. They poured scorn on my trust in Jesus in the face of incredible odds.
Yet, during numerous trials in life, I have seen the Lord stand up for me and He will come through and hide me in the shadow of His wings in this situation too!
I boldly state if God is with me, no matter who is against me, I will be in the majority!
If you have trusted Jesus for salvation, you too are God's child, and will obtain that same protection!
Again:
Romans 8:31 AMPC
What then shall we say to [all] this? If God is for us, who [can be] against us? [Who can be our foe, if God is on our side?]
Prayer
What a privilege to hide in the protection of your love, Heavenly Father. Thank you Jesus for making this possible through your death and resurrection. I truly am a child of God!
