My God chose the backstreet of history
Coming in ignomy
Divested of His heavenly glory
Hidden in a virgin's womb
From embryo to foetus ever growing
Day by day hearing human voices - sharing His mother's hopes and fears
Feeding from her essence
Infinite Wisdom confined..
Bursting forth into a world He created
No fanfare, no cosy cot...
On the run from Herod's murderous plot
To Egypt and finally...
Can any good come from Nazareth?
Learning that the cruel taunts of children
Cut like barbs into His perfect soul
Constantly turning the other cheek as He learned obedience to God's Word
Fashioning wood, the Creator turned carpenter...
Knowing that same wood awaited Him in His destiny...
Feeling more deeply than anyone, the desperate cry of humanity
For meaning, belonging and love..
Understanding that there was only one way to answer that call...
The agony, the loneliness, the desolation exploding like napalm
as The Crucified Lamb absorbed our sin and dealt it a Victorious Blow
You and I, fellow believer, are part of the joy that was set before Him...
Hallelujah to the Lamb of God
Who takes away the sin of the world...
Yes, even my sin... and all for the measly price of simply believing!
Amazing Jesus, You astound me daily
