Abandon

1 John 2:15-17 Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.

If you've ever watched the movie "Titanic" you will have seen the traumatic scenes of people struggling to "abandon ship" - once they knew the boat was sinking - there was a rush to get into the lifeboats.

Inexplicably, the captain was determined to go down with it! It's a sad scene to see him on the bridge with the water slowly flooding it.

That's always been hard for me to understand - why would you want to give your life for something that's eventually going to rust and perish anyway?

When we look around at our world we see that life and society is being shaken to its foundations. Whether it's pandemics, corruption, anarchy, economic collapse, natural disasters - the tangible things are being eroded! Nothing and nowhere is safe from potential disasters.

So it's time to "abandon ship" and run for THE Life-boat,  folks. Unlike the story of the Titanic, there's plenty of spaces on aboard and you won't get refused by Jesus. All who put their trust and hope in Him will be saved.

This world is going down like the Titanic, the "iceberg" of sin and man's greed damaged it long ago below the "waterline" and it's been in a long process of decay ever since the Fall.

Don't be like the captain of the Titanic and go down with the "doomed ship" of this world and it's values.

There is a fantastic new heaven and earth being designed by Jesus awaiting all those who trust in Him.

Revelation 21:1-5

Then I saw ‘a new heaven and a new earth,’for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘Look! God’s dwelling-place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death” or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.’

He who was seated on the throne said, ‘I am making everything new!’ Then he said, ‘Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.’
