A meal to remember!

Luke 22:19-20 NKJV

And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, "This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me." [20] Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you.

Do we forget the very graphic suffering of our Lord Jesus Christ even when we eat and drink of Him in the simple way He gave us to remember Him?

There is a YouTube by Dr John Campbell where he explains the injuries sustained by Jesus during His Passion, using the very staggering exhibition based on the Shroud of Turin.

Here is a list of the injuries:

  • Broken nose

  • Swollen face, right eye bruised

  • Part of the beard plucked out

  • Tearing wounds produced by the scourging

  • Wounds from the crown of thorns

  • Bruises on the shoulders from carrying the Cross

  • Knee injuries from repeated falls

  • Nail wounds in hands and feet

  • Oval wound between the fifth and sixth rib on the right side

As I described this to my nearest and dearest, I could hardly get the words out, as I was overcome with the facts of what Jesus endured voluntarily for me!

It's simple bread and wine - easy to eat and drink superficially - isn't it?

Yet, when seeing the life size image they've created from the Shroud, it's impact is a stark reminder of the brutally savage cost to Jesus for our Salvation.

It's free for us, but priceless for the Godhead to offer.

All of this was foretold and fulfilled by Jesus:

  • Isaiah 50:6 NKJV

I gave My back to those who struck Me, And My cheeks to those who plucked out the beard; I did not hide My face from shame and spitting.

  • Isaiah 52:14 NKJV

Just as many were astonished at You, So His visage was marred more than any man, And His form more than the sons of men;

  • Isaiah 53:5 NKJV

But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.

Never ever get used to Christ's Passion.
