Jeremiah 31:34 AMPC
And they will no more teach each man his neighbour and each man his brother, saying, Know the Lord, for they will all know Me [recognise, understand, and be acquainted with Me], from the least of them to the greatest, says the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
Hebrews 8:12 AMPC
For I will be merciful and gracious toward their sins and I will remember their deeds of unrighteousness no more.
Forgiving others when we've been deeply hurt or offended - now that's a "biggy"!
Why is it I can forget where I've put my keys or mobile phone, but my memory for hurts and offences is as sharp as a razor!?
The perfect God has a good "forgettery" - He makes a conscious decision to "remember no more"!
Perhaps you and I have a job to forgive ourselves for something and we keep going back to the Lord asking forgiveness over and over again.
From His Divine "forgettery" - He says:"What are you on about?"
It's as if that event has been erased - just-as-if-I'd never sinned.
In our fleshly, feelings driven, humanity, it's difficult to comprehend such total and utter forgiveness, isn't it?
Of ourselves, we say "I forgive, but I can't forget!"
But God, in Christ Jesus says: "Oh yes you can!"
The last words of Jesus on the Cross state: "It is finished!"
That's it - all paid for - every sin has received its just punishment in the Eternal Sacrifice and shed blood of Jesus...
The Cross, when applied to our heart, offers the enablement to each of us not only to forgive but to forget.
This morning I remind myself:
Psalm 103:12 AMPC
As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.
So, I need to put my hurts and offences into the same "forgettery" that God has put my sins and failings - then call in the removal "lorry" of the Holy Spirit
to take it all a long, long way away - forever!
Luke 11:4 AMPC
And forgive us our sins, for we ourselves also forgive everyone who is indebted to us [who has offended us or done us wrong]. And bring us not into temptation but rescue us from evil.
Like I said: It's a "biggy"!
