Proverbs 19:11 AMPC
Good sense makes a man restrain his anger, and it is his glory to overlook a transgression or an offence.
Someone once said to me:
"I don't forgive, I don't forget!"
The person was talking about something someone had done which had made them angry and hurt, justifiably so.
Although it took place a long time ago, the glowing coals of anger still burned and the offence still reared its accusing head.
It's so easy, for me too, to hang onto old hurts and cherish them like a worn out teddy bear ready to pick up and hug every now and then - just to prove that I have been hard done by!
It is Satan's snare that will anchor us to the past and steal our peace.
Jesus explains that our path of forgiveness entails forgiving those who have hurt us:
Matthew 6:14-15
For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
It's time to let go and overlook wrongs that have hurt us deeply.
I ask myself this: Do I want to "feel" more forgiven by God?
Then try forgiving others!
I still have a way to go!
Abba Father, please give me a good "forgetery" and the willingness to use it, in Jesus' name.
