Luke 19:10 NKJV
for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost."
Annie Lennox wrote a sadly true song "Lost". The lyrics poetically paint a picture of the brevity of life and pronounce "We're lost, so lost!".
There's no sliver of hope in this song, an atheist only has the past to smile back on, but no future.
Death awaits to pull down the curtain on existence.
Before Jesus came it was like that for most, even the wise king Solomon:
Ecclesiastes 9:5-6 NKJV
For the living know that they will die; But the dead know nothing, And they have no more reward, For the memory of them is forgotten. [6] Also their love, their hatred, and their envy have now perished; Nevermore will they have a share In anything done under the sun.
Luke chapter 19 focuses on things and people who were lost: the greedy tax collector,; the sheep separated from the flock; the coin and, the prodigal son.
Jesus illustrates how His mission is to seek out and save those who are lost.
Lots of people don't even know how lost they are until they lose everything - much like the prodigal son. Others understand the futility and briefness of greedy gain and look for some form of redemption.
Whatever your state, Jesus IS seeking you out, wanting to bring hope and meaning to your lost state.
His sacrificial death and glorious resurrection brings hope beyond the grave.
John 11:25-26 NKJV
Jesus said to her, "I Am the Resurrection and the Life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. [26] And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?"
Time to leave the lostness behind and be found by Jesus.
