Matthew 18:11 AMPC
For the Son of man came to save that which was lost.
Last night when we were out walking we stopped to watch a flock of sheep and their lambs.
It was really cute to see the little ones jumping and skipping and play fighting.
While they were doing that, they didn't notice that their mums had started to move on.
When they heard the special bleating of each of their mums - they looked round in bewilderment realising they were lost! Then ran like crazy to catch them up.
In Bible times the shepherd stayed with his sheep to keep watch. So he was there to notice the lost ones who had gone astray.
Jesus tells a parable in that background:
Parable of the Lost Sheep
Matthew 18:12-14
12 “If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them wanders away, what will he do? Won’t he leave the ninety-nine others on the hills and go out to search for the one that is lost? 13 And if he finds it, I tell you the truth, he will rejoice over it more than over the ninety-nine that didn’t wander away! 14 In the same way, it is not my heavenly Father’s will that even one of these little ones should perish.
If you're feeling "lost", cut off from the rest of the flock so to speak, be assured that Jesus is searching for you, to bring you back.
You may not even realise that you ARE lost - Jesus is looking out for you just the same. He wants to bring you into the safety of His Kingdom - a Kingdom that will last forever, beyond this life.
John 10:11 AMPC
I am the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd risks and lays down His life for the sheep.
If He was ready to lay down His life for you, how much more will He strive to get your attention and "find you"!
There's a special joy when something that's been lost is found.
Jesus wants to throw a party to celebrate your return!
