Come

Revelation 22:17

The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.

Isaiah 55:1

“Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters;

and you who have no money, come, buy and eat!

Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost.

A very interesting article talks of why we can still be thirsty after drinking more than enough water:

"More Than Just Drinking More Water

If you find that you still feel thirsty after drinking a large volume of water each day, it’s obvious that the solution isn’t just to increase your drinking volume and frequency. The goal is to make sure you drink enough water every day to never really get thirsty, but you may be neglecting your electrolyte intake. Electrolytes include sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, chloride, bicarbonate and hydrogen phosphate.

According to MedlinePlus, dehydration isn’t just caused by your body losing water, it also means you're losing electrolytes needed to help your body breathe, move, talk, and perform all your normal activities.

Consider the Quality of Your Water

Water straight from the tap has been stripped of its naturally occurring minerals and electrolytes. This imbalance in electrolytes can be a reason you are still feeling thirsty after drinking water. Staying properly hydrated is more than just drinking water. You should also be considering what's in your water."

Almost the last words in the Bible echo the words from the Old Testament - the same message, the same invitation.

A similar invitation that Jesus offered to the woman at the well in John 4, when he asked her for some water.

She was an outsider, thirsty for love and acceptance, from which her behaviour had excluded her.

That made her spiritually thirsty.

The question is how thirsty am I? Then, what am I using to quench that spiritual & emotional thirst? Am I drinking in the wrong type of "water" that has been stripped of vital essences required to keep me spiritually healthy?

In the natural, if I'm not thirsty then I don't want to drink, no matter what's on offer.

The same applies spiritually. If I have no spiritual thirst, then God's free offer will hold no allure for me.

Perhaps that's why the Lord is permitting the harsh trials occurring globally? He wants to wake us up to our needy state.

What better way than to allow the comforts of everyday life to be withdrawn? The kinds of ways that are used to entertain our souls have been and are being stripped away.

Is that the stimulus we all need in order to turn us toward Jesus?

As this weary world draws to a close, listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit.

Come to the place of freedom and life everlasting.

Come to Jesus, the very Source of Living Water:

John 7:37 On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”
