Romans 3:23 NLT

For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God's glorious standard.

The definition of sin in the dictionary is:

an immoral act considered to be a transgression against divine law.

"a sin in the eyes of God"

Yet sin is not a word that today's world is comfortable with - it has been swallowed up by excuses.

"I fell madly in love", said the former health secretary - his justification for breaking his marriage vows, forsaking his wife and children for an adulterous liaison.

When challenged about leaving his wife and children as being wrong, he said he found the charge "offensive" - "just look at the king" was his defence!

His declaration of "I fell in love" was acknowledged as an acceptable reason for betrayal. In fact, he was more vilified for breaking the COVID lockdown than for adultery.

Even a famous Christian personality watered down his adultery as a "moral failure". Not for him the repentance of David in Psalm 51.

Most people would declare "I'm a good person" when confronted with the above verse that all have sinned.

Yet when we measure our "goodness" against God's 10 Commandments (Exodus 20) it is clear that no one can truly claim to be good in God's sight:

Psalm 14:2-3 NLT

The LORD looks down from heaven on the entire human race; He looks to see if anyone is truly wise, if anyone seeks God. [3] But no, all have turned away; all have become corrupt. No one does good, not a single one!

So when someone said that he wasn't afraid to stand before God in his own right, I shuddered inwardly.

Sin has consequences - a death penalty:

Romans 6:23 NLT

For the wages of sin is death,

Jesus ALONE could pay our penalty, because He was sinless:

Romans 6:23 NLT

but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.

Acknowledge TODAY, right now, that you are a sinner in need of a Saviour and take Jesus' gift freely offered for you.

It's the only way to forgiveness and eternal life.
