Psalm 91:9-10 If you make the Lord your refuge, if you make the Most High your shelter, no evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your home.
The precious promises contained in the Bible are conditional, we do our part, then God delivers!
The promise in Psalm 91 is very relevant to us right now.
How do we make the Lord our refuge and shelter?
During WW2, people built what were called Anderson Shelters in their gardens, which they could go to when an air raid siren went. They weren't that professional or bombproof, but they brought some comfort.
In Israel, when missiles are being fired from Gaza there's a siren that sounds and then you have less than a minute or so to run to a shelter for safety. There's no time to linger - you just do it!
In the meantime the military have something called the iron Dome which tracks and destroys the bomb before it can hurt anyone.
I've actually been in Tel Aviv when such a siren is sounded. Each flat has something called a "mamad" a reinforced room into which you retreat when the siren sounds. It is built to withstand a bomb blast.
When we hear the "siren" of danger - whether it's physical, material, emotional or spiritual - we need to run to Jesus, our "Divine Mamad" (without any delay)!
Our Heavenly Father has His own "Iron Dome" ready to protect against harm.
You may be asking "how?", "how can I receive this protection?"
There's another precious "if" in the Bible - have a look at Romans 10:9:
If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
Does that mean you will never be subject to pain or loss? No, there are no absolute guarantees in this life. We all go through hard times in our lives. In fact Jesus warned about it:
I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”
Yet we can have the sheltering Presence of Jesus in our rocking boat and He will calm the storm and bring us safely to our ultimate destination in Heaven.
I thoroughly recommend that you beat a hasty retreat into the welcoming arms of Jesus!
